Lot description
Etching, 50 x 33,5 cm, laid paper reinforced with Japan paper, signed in plate at lower left "Piranesi F".
Under passe-partout. Very dark, fine impression.
The title page to Piranesi's print series on the Campus Martius in Ancient Rome (37 pl.), showing a large marble tablet inscribed with the title surrounded by architectural fragments. The series was dedicated to the British architect Robert Adam who became a close friend to Piranesi during his stay in Rome in 1755-1757.
