First edition of this important work on geometry by the French mathematician, physicist and politician L. Carnot (1753-1823). Illustrated with 4 fold. engr. pl. of diagrams in fine. It was Carnot's attempt to make reasonable the employment of unreasonable quantity in analysis, although with the focus on negative rather than infinitesimal quantity. At the end a 2-page catalogue of scientific books sold at Duprat's.
