Lot description
Folio: 283-[20-1 bl.] pp. (lacking the dedication lvs, tear at lower border of views of Ghent and Rotterdam touching the pl. for a few cm, some browning, some wormtracks near the gutter in the middle of the bookblock).
Contemp. calf (used, corners def.), gilt orn. spine on 7 raised bands (joints splitting, head and tail def.), sp. edges, marbled endpapers.
1st edition (?) of this splendid description of the Low Countries, with a wealth of information (and maps) on larger and smaller towns, incl. Breda, Haarlem, Rotterdam, Brussels, Leuven, Lier, Mechelen, Bruges, Dendermonde, Geraardsbergen, Kortrijk, Ghent, Ostend, Cambrai, Luxembourg, etc. Ill. with : an engr. title showing Neptune driving a horse chariot surrounded by coats of arms, 12 double-page maps, 63 views and 93 city maps. Martin Zeiller (1589-1661) compiled similar volumes for Caspar Merian (1655-ca. 1680).
