Lot description

Folio: [4 with front.]-viii pp.; 100 pl. (printed title pasted on front., left lower corner underlaid).

Contemp. calf, gilt orn. centered within double gilt borders with gilt orn. in the corners, gilt orn. spine on 7 raised bands (sm. def. at head), gilt sides.

First edition of the famous extensive work on the castles and manor houses, principal monasteries and abbeys in the province of Brabant by Jacques Le Roy (1633-1719). Ill. with allegorical engr. title with the coat of arms of Brabant by Abraham van Diepenbeeck, woodcut title-vign. with the coat of arms of Spain, 1 map of Brabant, and 98 full-page, double or folding plates depicting 166 views of monuments or castles, each with the coat of arms of the owners. The views are placed alphabetically. The Bibl. Belg. says that the index mentions some more views in addition to the views present in their copy. These views are present in our copy. It is difficult to find 2 identical copies of this extensive work.
