Cont. vellum, flat spine, red edges, (usual unobtrusive toning and spotting). Good copy.

First edition (2nd 1788) of the Latin version of Homers Iliad by the Mexican Jesuit historian and poet Alegre, born 1729 in Veracruz, in 1767 expelled from Mexico, settled in Bologna (d. 1788). The 24 books of the Iliad, together with the 4 of his Alexandrias (1st Forli 1773) constitute one of the last longer Neolatin epics. The ed. is dedicated to Cardinal I. Boncompagni.
