Contemp. vellum, flat spine (worn, soiled).
First ed. of the translation of "De rerum natura libri sex", the masterpiece of the Latin poet Lucretius (about 97-55 B.C.). Beautifully illustrated by Romeyn De Hooghe with one frontispiece and 7 copper engravings depicting allegorical figures. Each figure with an explanation sheet. The translation is preceded by an "opdragt" to A. Alewyn, a message to the reader, a short biography of Lucretius and an ode written by Adriaan Reland.
