Rare 2nd ed. of a scholarly textbook by the prolific Swiss humanist Heinrich Loriti (1488-1563), 1st publ. Basel 1527. It is a treatise on mathematical geography, incl. chapters on the construction of globes, and a passage mentioning America and "Amerigus Vesputius" in the final chapter “De regionibus extra Ptolemaeum”. The work is dedicated to the Polish nobleman and Reformer Joannes a Lasco (1499-1560), including a reference to “magnus ille Erasmus Roterodamus, que(m) ego uirum ... ut parentem coluerim semper” (A2v). Ill: some woodcut diagrams. Nice woodcut border on title page, with "Woman's guiles" such as "Virgin in the basket" and "Aristotle and Phyllis". Printed in italics. Ref.
