Lot description

4to: [2 bl., 6]-681-[19] pp. (toned, margins dampstained, tear in f. Ee2, a few single wormholes or wormtracks touching some letters).

17th-c. gilt polished calf, covers with gilt double ruled border, gilt spine on 5 raised bands, red sp. edges (rubbed, front joint split). Good copy.

Very rare undated Lyon reprint of the Lyon 1515 edition (even taking over its colophon) of a major work of the polymath, alchemist and mystic Ramon Llull (Majorca, c.1232-1315). He is credited with writing the 1st major work of Catalan literature, and in recent years his reputation has grown among computer scientists, who see his system of logic as the beginning of information science. Ill. with 16 large woodcuts (incl. repeats) in text. Similar large woodcut on title (repeated on final prelim. p.). Printed in 2 cols. Ref.
