Lot description
Engr., 44,6 x 53,6 cm, hand-coloured (few tiny spots, light trace of central fold).
Hinged at upper edge. Under passe-partout.
Double hemisphere set in a bold decorative border with allegorical scenes, closely resembling the renowned 1658 world map by Visscher that set a trend for many decorative Dutch world maps in the 17th c. The publisher Moses Pitt adapted the Johannes van Loon's world map to include a dedication to Charles II (1630-1685) for his "The English Atlas" of 1680. Verso blank.
