Etching, 13,8 x 21,5 cm, laid paper with watermark (crowned Amsterdam coat of arms with lions), signed "J. Smees in et fecit" (sl. foxed, mostly on edges).
Good impression with wide margins. Hinged at upper edges, under passe-partout. Rare.
Nice Italianate landscape with a man carrying brushwood and a hermit. The enigmatic Jan Smees was active in Amsterdam c. 1705-1729. Only 5 rare etchings by his hand are known.
