Lot description
Engr., 46 x 54,2 cm, hand-coloured (light traces of central fold, few tiny spots, very min. soiling in left upper corner).
Rare carte-à-figures of Brabant, after an earlier Visscher-map, by Jodocus Hondius II who included a dog next to the title cartouche as a reference to his surname. The decorative border contains the portraits of Ambrogio Spinola and archduchess Isabella Clara Eugenia, 8 costumed figures, 3 coats of arms (Antwerp, Brabant and Mechelen) and 7 town views (o.a. Brussels, Antwerp and 's Hertogenbosch). Engr. by Dirck Gryp. This map appears in only 2 publications: the "Atlantis maioris appendix [...]" (1630) and "Theatrum Imperii Germanici" (1632), both by J. Janssonius. Verso blank.
Ref. Brabantia ducatus 38. - Van der Krogt I:[3100:1B], 1:202 or 1:221.
