Lot description
Sm. 4to: engr. title-[2]-651 (i.e. 643)-[1 bl.] pp. (title cut a bit short with sl. loss on top and right side, some spotting, very marg. dampstains on last lvs).
Contemp. mottled calf, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, red spr. edges (sl. rubbed, sm. missing of leather on the lower board, joints partly split).
Second edition, uncommon (1st, same address, 1625, reprinted in Barcelona, 1627). Nice engr. title in the same allegorical frame as that of 1625. Coloma (1566-1637), Count of Elda, fought in the Dutch Wars and became governor of Cambrai and then of Milan. He was Councillor of State and of the War Department. This history of the Flanders campaigns from 1588 to 1599 was long esteemed and J. Pirenne quotes it in his "Bibliographie de l'histoire de Belgique" (3398).
