Lot description
Folio: xi-110 pp.; 54 (of 58) pl. (4 pl. in last part missing; foxing, sometimes extensive, sl. marg. damp stains, one plate loose, marg. hole in one plate at end).
Contemp. three-quarter vellum, paper on boards, ink-titled label on front cover, flat spine with titled label, red spr. edges (very rubbed, stains on front cover, damp stain on lower one). Wide-margined copy.
Second Latin edition (1st 1738; 1st Italian 1706) of a work about wall and ceiling decorations of the Roman crypts and the tomb of Nasonius by the painter Bellori (1613-1696) and archeologist La Chausse (1655?-1724). Illustrated by Pietro Santi and Francesco Bartoli with 91 copper-engravings on 54 plates, of which 6 folding, 2 headpieces, 5 orn. initials, one tailpiece and a title-vignette.
