First French edition of this interesting and important account relating the persecutions suffered by Dominican missionaries in China and more particularly in Macao, because of their loyalty to Cardinal de Tournon, legate of the Holy See, and their refusal to conform to the practice of the Jesuits. The work gives the Dominican voice to be heard in the great affair of the "Querelle des Rites", while most of the accounts come from the Jesuits. All the missionaries who did not belong to the Company more or less strongly condemned the practice of inculturation which had led to the tolerance of Chinese rites, considered as purely civil.
