Lot description
Folio: title and 17 pl. (soiled, marg. ink stain and occ. smaller ones on pl., frayed margins, some contemp. ms. notes).
Contemp. half vellum cardboard (front cover def.).
Work entirely copper-engraved composed of a title and 17 plates representing medallion portraits of Germanic Emperors, 1 to 4 per plates, with explanatory texts in an elaborate setup. By the French engraver and publisher Bonnart (1637?-1718). Enriched with 4 plates: one also by Bonnart with Charles VII's portrait and 3 plates, heightened with colours and gold, two (all?) by Martin Engelbrecht from the "Theatre de la milice etrangere. Schau-Bühne verschiedener bishero in Teutschland unbekannt gewester Soldaten von ausländischer Nationen [...]" (c. 1742-48), figuring Francis I, Maria Theresa and Joseph II.
