Old sheep, spine with raised bands (head damaged, tail missing, rubbed, corners bumped).
Very rare second ed. (1st 1611) of this extensive historical work by G. Chappuys (1546-1613), the successor of François de Belleforest as historiographer of France. Engr. ill.: large printer's mark on title, 2 full-page pl. showing 24 portraits of the sovereigns of both sides (Charles V, Philips II, Albert & Isabella, Alva, Alexander Farnese, Princes of Orange William and Maurice, Egmont & Hoorne, Robert Dudley,...), joined by a descriptive text leaf, and 7 folding plates showing battles, fortifications and sieges (Ostend, Bergen op Zoom, Cambrai, Hulst, Rheinberg, the bridge of Parma and a pl. depicting all the cities taken by the Marquis de Spinola), most signed A. Huberti. The first ed. treated events until 1609, our ed. is actualized to 1623. Title in red and black. Large woodcut printer's mark at the end, sm. woodcut mark on part title.
