2 parts in 1 vol., 4to: [12 incl. engr. portrait]-328, 253-[23] pp. (front. in facsimile and from the 1708 ed., Kk1-4 in facsimile, lower bl. margin of Mm1-2 restored, soiling and browning throughout, some dampstaining affecting the pl.).
Contemp. overl. vellum, flat spine.
First edition by the Dutch ship's surgeon W. Schouten (1638-1704) describing in a vivid manner many events of the early 1660s in the East visiting Sumatra, Java, the Moluccas, Amboina, Celebes, Ceylon, Bengal and Arakan in the service of the VOC. Ill. with an engr. portrait of Schouten, 4 engr. in-text and 43 full-page or folding engr. pl. by C. Decker or J. Kip after Schouten depicting landscapes, towns, harbour views, costumes, warriors, court and battles scenes, religious ceremonies, etc. Printed in Gothic.
