8vo: [12]-62 (= 163) ff. (lacking final f. with woodcut mark; some minor soiling or spotting).
19th-c. gilt calf by Niedrée, covers with central gilt collector’s monogram and triple gilt ruled border, gilt spine on 5 raised bands with red label, gilt inside dentelles, a.e.g., marbl. endpapers, green silk marker (sl. rubbed, front cover stained at top). Very good copy.
Political treatise by the Savoyard humanist lawyer Seyssel (1450-1520). A great supporter of the French crown (esp. of Louis XII), he thought the power wielded by the monarch was both controlled and balanced, being limited by religion, existing laws and justice.
