Mod. mottled leather, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, spr. edges (some sl. rubbing).
Very rare first edition of a catechism with parallel text Latin-Annamese by the French Jesuit missonary de Rhodes (1591-1660), who had a great impact on Christianity in Vietnam. De Rhodes is also known for developing the first phonetic and romanised transcription of the Vietname (Annamese) language, the Quốc ngữ.
