Lot description
4to: [50] ff. (some unobtrusive soiling).
Disbound, older red edges. Very nice copy.
Extr. rare (8th recorded copy?). The Eclogue of Theodule (760-821), bishop of Orléans, is a Latin dialogue, a "debate" between the truth of Christianity and pagan falsity. It is one of the 6 elementary Latin texts in the Liber Catonianus, a basic textbook in medieval schools. The present ed. also contains the commentary by Odo Picardus (active 1406-1407). This product from Martens’ 2nd Antwerp shop (1502-1512) is one of the 4 Latin schoolbooks Martens printed for the English market in 1507-1508. "Magister cum discipulis" woodcut on title. Printed in gothic and roman type. Ref. NKr 3936. - ESTC S122063. - STC 23940a. - Adams T-551. - Adam/Vanautgaerden (Martens) 79. - Heireman (Martens) A-189 & M-65. - Pettegree NB 29093.
