Folio: [12]-1/16 pp.-17/2922 col.-[40] pp. (foxing - extensive on some ff. -, sl. marg. (damp)staining, lower corner of title strengthened, marg. of col. 509 repaired, inner margin of col. 2275-2276 reinforced, occ. ink stains, some cancels with ms. notes).

Contemp. overl. vellum, flat spine (sm. def.).

First edition of the major work of Golius (1596-1667), mathematician and Orientalist, and the most important Arabic-Latin dictionary until the "Lexicon arabico-latinum" of Freytag (1830-37, 4 vol., 4to). Impressive technical achievement with text in roman and arabic types over 2922 columns. Daniel and Jean Elzevier printed this dictionary but put the names of their fathers on title as a tribute. Woodcut mark with the "Solitaire" on title.
