Obl. folio: front. and 50 (of 100) unnumb. pl., 31 x 42,5 cm, vellum paper 41,5 x 54 cm (missing typogr. title and 50 pl., margins sl. fox.).
Contemp. quarter sheep, green leather title label on upper cover (dusty, rubbed, spine defective, etc.). Plates in good condition.
Nice frontispiece dated 1818, featuring the artist among some antique ruins, admiring an allegory of the city; title and date in a cartouche in lower part. Neoclassical plates dated 1816-1819, each one with an Italian caption, picturing famous or spectacular episodes of the Rome's history, based on Charles Rollin's "Istoria romana". By the Roman painter, engraver and illustrator Pinelli (1781-1835), who produced a similar album on Greek history and several other suites on the costumes and customs of Italian people.
