Lot description

Dutch manuscript on paper, c. 23,5 x 14 cm, [6]-511-[5] pp., written in brown ink, chapter headings in red ink (faded, toned, marg. dampstained), by two hands (pp. 1-357, and 357-end).

Old calf, richly gilt spine on 5 raised bands, marbl. endpapers (rubbed, lower cover almost loose, head and tail def., endpapers partly loose at front). In good condition.

Cont. copy from the M. de Roovere de Roosemeersch collection (nr. 92 of his catalogue), with additions and annotations, of the chronicle compiled by the Ghent Augustinian canon D’Obercourt at the beginning of the 18th c. It consists of an extensive history of Ghent and Flanders, esp. for the years 1535-1607. The 2nd part contains a number of decisions by the Mechelen Grand Conseil. A similar manuscript is preserved as BHSL.HS.3773 in the Universiteitsbibliotheek Gent. Ref. J. Scheerder (De handschriften van Gentse kronieken) p. 30. Prov.
