Lot description
Folio: front.-xi-[1 bl.]-572 pp.; 22 pl. protected with tissue guards (light marg. damp stains, marg. soiling on pp. 108-109, some foxing on p. 572 and scattered at the end).
Contemp. three-quarter blind-decorated calf, marbled paper on gilt-ruled boards, spine in red and green morocco gilt-orn. and titled with raised bands (rubbed). Untrimmed wide-margined copy in a quite neat inside condition.
Very elegant typography of the works of Vergilius printed on vellum with wide margins. Delicately illustrated with an allegorical frontispiece and 22 nice plates with captions engraved by Baquoy, Copia, Godefroy, etc. after Gérard and Girodet. Limited to 250 copies (n. 160, numb. by hand and signed by Didot).
