Lot description

Pen and brown ink, watercolour, c. 14,3 x 15,0 cm, laid paper, unsigned, Latin text on recto, numb. and Dutch text on verso (few sm. stains, light folds on corners from former mount).

Good condition.

Charming series with Cupid lighting a torch, feeding birds, firing arrows, etc. After the engravings by Jacques de Gheyn II (1565-1629) for Daniel Hensius's "Quaeris quid sit amor", first published c. 1601 (n. 5, 7, 10, 12-14, 16, 18-19, 21). Each drawing has the accompanying Latin verses around the drawing and the Dutch verses on the verso in a contemporary hand.
