Lot description
247 etchings, c. 13,2 x 8,4 cm (image), c. 20,0 x 12,9 cm (sheet), laid paper, signed, French text with fable number (cut inside wide platemark but outside image, probably because several illustrations were printed from 1 plate, few with few spots).

Large collection of 244 prints illustrating the 245 fables (without 83, 125-150, 205-207; multiple illustrations for some fables) of Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1695). Mainly by Reinier Vinkeles (1741-1816), but also by Jan Punt (1711-1779) and Abraham Delfos (c. 1731-1820), many dated 1758-1781. From "Fables choisies", published in Leiden by Luzac & van Damme. Also 3 portraits of La Fontaine by Vinkeles after Jacobus Buys (1724-1801) and Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1686-1755) and by Bernard Picart (1673-1733) after Hyacinthe Rigaud (1659-1743).
