First edition of this extensive biography by the Scottish-born French author and philosopher Ramsay (1686-1743), of Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne, viscount of Turenne (1611-1675), famous army commander in the wars of Louis XIII & XIV. Engr. ill.: front. portr. by Larmessin after Meissonier and 13 double-page pl. by or after Cocquart showing siege and battle plans (Valenciennes, Arras, Dunkirk, etc.) and a map "Carte des marches du vicomte de Turenne dans le comté de Hollande, les Provinces Unis [...]". Also 2 large engr. arm. vign. on titles, 7 fine headpieces by Scotin showing various scenes from the life of Turenne, 4 endpieces and 6 initials. Titles and half titles in red and black.
