Lot description

Lithograph, bluish wove paper, 30,4 x 48,8 cm.

Framed (not studied outside frame)

Moonlight view of the 'distressing shipreck' of the American brig Lydia, rescued by J.J. Aubert on December 18, 1828. According to the Journal du Havre of that day, it marked the happy ending after a long breakdown. Rendered in a rich tonal impression, slightly different from Lemercier's well-known lithograph.
