Lot description

Original cardboard illustrated compartmented box with several (not all?) of the props incl. a.o. 2 envelops with a set of 5 and of 7 cards, one magic wand made of wood and paper, the so called egg vase (without the "egg"), the apparatus for the "string through nose trick", 4 wooden beads of which one larger and attached to a string, together with the French instruction booklet and another pink instruction leaf.

Magic set by J.W. Spier & Son, manufacturer of board games founded by Jacob Wolf Spier. Some of the props and the lid of the box bears the caption "J.W.S. & S. Bavaria", the instruction booklet bears the caption "Spear Series". Around the years 1930 with the rise to power of the Nazis and the Spier family being Jewish, some family members anglicised their name to Spear. So this brings up the question if the instructions booklet is of a later date than the magic box?
Joined: Empty painter's case "Peinture et dessins France", 27,8 x 36,8 cm, balsa wood and cardboard (some min. wear). (2 pcs)
