Cont. blindst. pigskin over wood, spine on 4 raised bands, covers with central panel representing Justitia (front cover) and Lucretia (lower cover) within rollstamped border, stamped initials F W and date 1581 on front cover (rubbed, corners bumped, min. soiling, some sm. def.). Good copy.
Rare 3rd Plantin ed. (1st 1567, 2nd 1574) of a popular treatise by the Zeeland physician Lemnius (1505-1568), a pupil of Vesalius and friend of Dodonaeus. The work deals with medical and dietetic problems, but also with occult sciences (especially monsters). Dedicated by Plantin to A. Ortelius.
