Lot description
Engraving, 41,3 x 51,9 cm, laid paper with unidentified watermark, signature and address at bottom right: "Nicolaes de Bruyn inven. CJVisscher Excu.", Latin and Dutch text in lower margin (vertical fold strengthened, sm. tear at bottom centre).
Hinged at upper edges, under passe-partout. Good impression with mostly wide margins.
Claes Jansz. Visscher published large biblical prints on so-called royal-size paper. The plates were reused by his son and grandson Nicolaes Visscher I and II in their royal-size picture Bible, the "Historiae Sacrae Veteris et Novi Testamenti", of which an example is in London (British Museum, inv. 1939,0130.1.1). 1st state before later address.
