Lot description

Painting, oil on panel, 111,4 x 41,0 cm (visible), unsigned (sm. part missing at bottom right, some losses and scratches, few wormholes).

In frame (122,5 x 52,5 cm) with ornamental elements in 3 corners (not studied outside frame). Verso visible (some wormholes and traces of former hanging).

St Helena and the True Cross, accompanied by a male saint, a woman and two men. The ornamental motif in the background, the halo of the male saint and a part of the Cross are worked out with punches and patterns of incised lines. The painting was probably produced in Catalonia-Aragon (Northern Spain) as part of a larger altarpiece.
