Rare first collective edition containing the supplement "Dictionnaire des termes du manège moderne", and the 5th ed. of "L'art de monter à cheval" (orig. French ed. 1727, under a sl. different title). This is the main work of Eisenberg (1695-1770), stable master of George II of England, illustrated by the famous Picart (1673-1733). Engr. ills: frontisp., 36 (of 55) full-page pls & 4 full-page pls with 7 ills. “The [...] beautiful plates accurately illustrating seven horse breeds and the various positions of the rider during horse training and dressage, are accompanied by short descriptions” (Dejager). Title in red & black. Bound after title: "Avertissement" and "Au roi"; "Table des matières" bound at the end. This copy is bound with the rare dictionary (as supplement to the main work) "providing readers a set of guidelines for horse training and dressage which is a mix of the rules of the harsh Italian riding school of the 16th c. [...] and the rules governing the gentle and mild practise of dressage of he French riding schools of the 17th and 18th c., incl. some exercises and ideas [...]". Ref. 1. Cp.
