The stoning of St Stephen.

Under passe-partout and gilt frame (not studied outside frame).

A seated St Stephen is being held and stoned by a crowd. From the original plate etched by Rembrandt in 1635. The plate already somewhat worn, most notably at top right. 4rd state with lines added and the shadows reworked with a mezzotint rocker by the workshop of Henry-Louis Basan (18th c.).
