Lot description
6 parts in 2 vol., folio (some foxing and sl. browning, last ff. of vol. I dampstained in blank marg., sm. wormtrack in blank margin of first ff. of vol. II and front flyleaf and half-title sl. folded).
Contemp. marbled calf, gilt orn. spines with raised bands and labels, red edges (covers rubbed, head of vol. II sl. torn and sm. wormtrack in upper pastedown).
Later ed. (1st 1700) of the main work of van Espen (1646-1728), Leuven Professor of Canon law and defender of Gallican theories. It still is a basic text for our understanding of the working of the Catholic Church in 17th-18th-c. Europe, dealing with all aspects of the duties of the clergy. Complete copy. Text in 2 col. and first titles of vol. I & II printed in black and red.
