First edition of a history of medieval West Friesland (part of North Holland, near Alkmaar), up to the year 1300, concentrating on the village of Vroonen. It had been claimed that Vroonen had once been a great trading city, and that more than 3.000 people perished when it was burned and flooded by Count Jan I in 1297. The Alkmaar historian Eikelenberg (1663-1738) debunks this myth, and provides a basis for a more accurate history of the village and the surrounding regions. Engr. ill.: nice allegorical front. by B.
