2 parts in 1 vol., 4to: portrait-[10]-1/192, portrait-[2]-193/394-[17] pp.; 1 pl. (occ. foxing, sl. marg. damp stain in 2nd part).
Contemp. marbled sheep, gilt orn. spine with raised bands, red edges. Good copy.
Third corrected and enlarged edition (1st: Cologne, 1693, 12mo) of the biography of Louis de Bourbon, the "Grand Condé". By the French theologian and writer Coste (1668-1747), born in Uzès from Protestants parents, translator of Locke's "Essay concerning human understanding" and editor i.a. of the "Essais" of Montaigne. Coste moved to England, Switzerland and Holland after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. Illustrated with 3 portraits: 2 identical of Louis de Bourbon, and one of the author.
