Various sizes: 1 to 4 pp., in German, except 1 in Latin (occ. sm. damp stains, traces of wax stamps, some contemp. annotations in French).

1. Gerdes, Daniel (1698-1765) - Short letter to "Vir plurimum Venerande ac Celeberrime!". Groningen, "pridie Kalendas Jun[ias]" (31 May) 1755. Calvinist theologian and historian, appointed professor at the University of Duisburg in 1726, and at the University of Groningen in 1736. - 2. Reinwardt, Caspar Georg Carl (1733-1854) - Note to "Liebster Freund". Amsterdam, 2nd June 1793. Prussian-born Dutch botanist, considered to be the founding father of Bogor Botanical Garden in Indonesia. - 3. Müller, Wilhelm (1794-1827) - Note to "Hochwohlgeborner Herr". 28 May 1810. Lyric poet, most well known as the author of "Die schöne Müllerin" and "Winterreise", the famous Franz Schubert song cycles. - 4. Wetzel, Friedrich Gottlob (1779-1819) - Letter. Nuremberg, 4 Aug. 1814. 4 pp. on blue paper. Doctor, poet and novelist, redactor of the "Fränkischer Merkur" in Bamberg, friend of Jean Paul and E.T.A. Hoffmann. - 5. Klein, Georg Michael (1776-1820) - Letter to Dr. Birnbaum. Würzburg, 23 July 1817. 3 pp. (hole with minor loss of text). Catholic clergyman, philosopher and professor of philosophy at the University of Würzburg. - 6. Mittermaier, Carl Joseph Anton (1787-1869) - Letter to "Wohlgeborener, Hochzuverehrender Herr Professor". Landshut, 12 Nov. 1817. Professor of law at the University of Landshut and later in Bonn and Heidelberg, member of the Baden legislature for nearly 20 years previous to 1841. - 7. Wilken, Friedrich (1777-1840) - L. to Mr. "Becker" [i.e. Bekker], "professeur à l'université de Louvain". Berlin, 11 Nov. 1818. Historian and orientalist, professor and head librarian at the University of Heidelberg, then in Berlin, where he was appointed in 1817. His correspondent was a German philologist, professor at the State University of Leuven and then of Liège. The letter concerns the "Acta Sanctorum" of the Bollandists, then in dormancy after the suppression of the Society of Jesus in 1773. They were re-established in 1837. - 8. Hornthal, Franz Ludwig von (1760-1833) - Fragment of a letter with his signature. S.l., [before 1822]. Verso: long note in French dated 1822. Lawyer and politician, first mayor (1818-1821) of Bamberg after the introduction of the magistrate constitution in Bavaria. - 9. Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Schillingsfürst, Alexander Prince of (1794-1849) - Fragment of a letter signed with his initial. Bamberg (?), 28 Jan. 1822. Priest (1815), bishop (1844) and reputed miracle-worker, author of ascetic and controversial writings. - 10. Lang, Anton (1875-1938) - Postcard to Prof. Dr. Leo Mallinger in Ostend. Oberammergau, 16 April 1904. Studio potter and actor in the Oberammergau Passion Play. Ill. with his b/w portrait as Jesus. - 11. Albert, Eugen d' (1864-1932) - Visiting card to "Verehrte gnädige Frau!". S.l., [ca. 1900]. Scottish-born pianist and composer emigrated to Germany where he became a pupil of the elderly Franz Liszt in Weimar.
