Lot description
Engraving, 30,4 x 20,2 cm, laid paper, inscription on the harpsichord: "F. COSSETH FECIT ANDWERPE".
Good impression with wide margins.
Engraving in reverse after the painting (also known as "The Duet") by Frans van Mieris dated 1658 in Schwerin (Staatliches Museum, inv. G 82). The engraving is attributed to the Antwerp Cornelis-Henricus van Meurs, who produced similar engravings after Van Mieris and other 17th-century masters. The inscription is a reference to the Antwerp harpsichord maker Joannes Couchet (1615-1655). Together with other plates by Van Meurs, this plate was reused in Michael Franciscus Vermeren's "Den theater des bedroghs", published in Brussels by Jacob van de Velde in 1743.
Ref. Not in Hollstein.
