Lot description

Bifolium (21 x 13 cm): 3 pp., on paper, in French.

Good condition.

Interesting letter, probably to the Liège (Belgium) composer and conductor Théodore Jadoul. Together with the countess of Mercy-Argenteau, he promoted Russian music in Belgium and France around 1880. Borodine apologises for not being able to come and shake his hands after the performance, and he also thanks him for his help in the execution of the concert ("[...] je m'empresse de vous remercier pour tous les soins, que vous avez pris pour que votre symphonie fut bien exécutée [...]"). In the postscriptum, he asked him to send the sheet music of the symphony to the countess of Mercy-Argenteau and expressed his disappointment at the lack of enthusiasm of the Liège public ("[...] Je veux ajouter encore mon étonnement, que le public de Liège, n'a pas pu assez apprécier la valeur de l'exécution d'une oeuvre [...] diablement difficile à monter et à exécuter. [...] Aussi étais-je bien vexé à cause de ce manque d'égard pour vous [...]").
