Lot description
Drawing, pencil, 17 x 22 cm, laid paper, mounted on paper support, signed "Legillon a fribourg" and numbered 37 in pen (browning).
Under glass and frame (not studied outside frame).
Pretty branch drawn with a lot of details. Jean-François Legillon, Le Gillon or even Gillon (1739-1797), was a prominent member of the Bruges Academy of Fine Arts and continued his training in Rouen, Paris and Marseille. After his sojourn in France, he stayed in Rome between 1770-72 where he befriended Joseph-Benoît Suvée. He specialised as a painter and draughtsman of animals, landscapes and architecture. The collection of the Groeningemuseum (Steinmetzkabinet) holds 18 drawings by his hand.
