Lot description

Typescript, 3 parts in 1 vol., folio: 133 ff.; 73 pl. (loosening).

Sheepskin, gilt title (worn).

One of two extant copies of this typescript by Mexican General Mariano Ruiz containing his memoir of the Second French Intervention in Mexico, the capture and execution of Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg, the American Princess Salm-Salm and the events that led to the Mexican Revolution. Ill. with 73 mounted photographs out of text (52 portraits and folding map). Mariano Ruiz (Texcoco 1843-1932), a career army officer, rose to the rank of division general and commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade, West Division. He served as a federal deputy from 1886 to 1912 and was appointed governor of Nayarit from 1904-1911. Signed by the author and with dedicated letter to Carmen Romero Rubio de Díaz.
