First ed. of this work about how Belgian colonial infrastructure was founded and managed in Haut-Congo. Ill. with 58 pl. in-text (31 full-page) and 5 folding maps. Coquilhat (1853-1891) was a Belgian soldier, explorer and colonial civil servant who finished his career as Vice Governor-General of the Congo Free State. He gave his name, Coquilhatville, to the current Mbadanka.
