First ed. of Junker's longest and most important trip to Africa. He undertook his trip to North, East and Central Africa in 1879 from Alexandria to the countries of Mangbetu and Niam-Niam. The Mahdi uprising forced him to flee to Lado. He crossed Lake Albert and Lake Victoria and finally reached the east coast until he returned to St. Petersburg via Zanzibar. Richly ill. with 3 portrait front., 25 maps (2 folding), 120 full-page pl. and 385 pl. in-text, family trees included. Printed in Gothic type.
