Contemp. red morocco, triple gilt fillet frame on the boards, central gilt coat of arms, spine with raised bands gilt and decorated with repeated monogram and heraldic tool, a.e.g. (turn-in and corner skilfully restored).
Pocket ed. of Seneca's tragedies for students and travellers. Woodcut mark on title.

Prov. François-Auguste de Thou (1604-1642), elder son of the famous bibliophile Jacques-Auguste and of Gasparde de La Chastre (gilt coat of arms and his father's cypher "IAGG" that de Thoux junior used for his own books; ref. Olivier 217). A friend of Cinq-Mars, he was involved in the latter's plot against Cardinal Richelieu and sentenced to death. - De Ghellinck d'Elseghem Vaernewyck (arm. bookpl.
