Lot description

Hand-coloured lithograph, 33 x 50 cm, velin paper, signed on the pedestal: "J J G" (vert. fold).

Satire showing various politicians caricatured as children, dancing around a pedestal supporting toys and paper hens and celebrating the siege of Antwerp, 15 November 1832; the pedestal is also scribbled with graffiti: "Credeville voleur", "ohé Forest!" and "phi phi philipon"; among the politicians are Marshal Lobau, coming from behind the pedestal and wearing a purple dress with a clyster hanging from his belt; to his right is Persil, then Dupin, and Barthe; in the left foreground, in a green jacket and carrying a portfolio inscribed with the words "École de dessin", is D'Argout, then to his right comes Marshal Soult in military uniform, then Louis-Philippe, who is seen from behind. The print appeared in "La Caricature Journal", No.109.
