Jean-Achille Benouville (1815-1891) was a French landscape painter known for his views of Italy. In 1845, he was awarded the Prix de Rome for historic landscape painting. He stayed for a long time in Italy, where he shared a studio with Corot. He returned to France following his wife's death in 1868. The drawings can be dated to this period in his career.
