Oil on panel, 14,5 x 19,5 cm, oak, signed and dated at lower left "Fr. Swagers, 1783" (minor cracks, panel sl. bent).
Frans Swagers (1756-1836) can be regarded as one the finest representatives of the early Dutch Romantic landscape. His landscapes were sometimes provided with figures by W.R. Van der Wal.
