First Dutch translation of the famous treatise on human rights (and of the French Revolution) by the English political philosopher Thomas Paine (1737-1809). It was written as a reaction to "Reflections on the Revolution in France" (1790) by the ultraconservative Edmund Burke (1729-1797) and served as an inspiration for the American and French constitutions. The present copy contains both parts of The Rights of Man, an answer to Paine’s work by John Adams and a letter by Paine to the French people. Engr. portrait of Paine by A. Loosjes bound with. All. extr. rare publications.
