Lot description
Drawing, pen and brown ink, 19,5 x 26,5 cm, laid paper, unsigned (some creases in the corners, hinged by upper edge to cardb.).
Under passe-partout.
Nice scene in a manner reminiscent of Jacques Courtois (1621-1675), known as Le Bourguignon. This French-Italian painter was mainly active in Rome and Florence and became known as the leading battle painter of his age. The dynamic set-up and rapid pen strokes show an affinity with a sheet depicting a cavalry engagement in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (1975.131.102).
